DWTS' Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Shock Fans With Sweet Reaction to Tiny Hotel Intruder
Dancing With the Stars pro-turned-judge Derek Hough and his wife and former Dancing With the Stars troupe member Hayley Erbert Hough are well-known animal lovers. Glancing at their Instagram accounts, you'll constantly see photos and videos of them with their brood of cats and dogs, plus they love to swim in the ocean with whatever sea creatures they happen to find.
But right now, they're on a Babymoon of sorts — they announced in late July that they are expecting their first child — and they found an unexpected visitor sharing their hotel room with them.
Hough posted a video of a tiny mouse gamboling around their room, and on her Instagram stories, Hayley wrote:
What do you think we did?!
A. Got a new room ✌️
B. Left it alone 🫶
C. Fed it and let it enjoy the space with us 🥰
Most fans voted that they thought the Houghs would get a new room, but Hayley revealed in a comment on the video that they did not, in fact, do that.
"Our new little friend 🥰 We, in fact, did not leave the room. We fed him some food and are letting him enjoy the space 🤣," writes Hayley.
In the video, you can hear the Houghs trying to get the little mouse to come out and eat. Derek is sure his name is Remy, like the chef rat in Pixar's Ratatouille, voiced by Patton Oswalt.
"OK, there's a mouse in our room," says Hough on the video, as he zooms in on the tiny little visitor hiding under the TV console. "There he is!"
"Oh, I see it!" says Haley, "We're not gonna hurt you, you just wanna go outside maybe? You're so tiny! I wanted to open the door for you!"
"Hey bud! What's up, bud? What's up, buddy, come back!" says Derek, before revealing that they have put out some French fries for their little friend to snack on. "Go get the fries, bro! It's OK! Hey buddy. Is it Remy? Remy, right?"
In the Instagram comments, some people are horrified that they didn't get a new room, but many fans recognize that this lucky little mouse found the right people to cohabitate with.
"That little fella found the two kindest people on the planet to bunk with!! 🥰 🐭," wrote one fan.
Another fan added, "Oh my gosh!! 😮 You guys are so chill about it. I would be freaking out. And DEFINITELY changing rooms, maybe even hotels. 😬 I know that sounds dramatic, but I am not good with little rodents like that. But you guys are so sweet for trying to get it to go outside."
"I have to say the two of you are going to make the best parents. Just the way you treated that baby mouse ❤️, you're both adorable 🥰," wrote a third fan.
One concerned fan said she would have changed hotels entirely because "where there is 1 there are 100! 😳," and several fans have expressed that Hayley should not be sharing a hotel room with a mouse while she's pregnant, though one fan jumped to their defense, writing, "OMG people, it's just a mouse 🥹 I know they can carry disease, but this little one is just trying to live. They are no less a valuable life just because they are small."
